Type approval tests are carried out under the control of a type approval authority or an authorized technical service as ATS Group. No matter in which country they are conducted, the provided certificate will be valid across the entire European Union. To achieve a whole vehicle type approval, car makers will submit around 12 at the same vehicle to authorities for testing. 

This is under two banners component and system type approval. Components covered individual items such as lighting, parts, mirrors, brake pads or discs. System type approval covers a number of components that work together, such as the exhaust system, the breaking system, or the lighting system. 

Conformity of production is also a vital part of the approval process. The manufacturer must show evidence of its capacity to maintain compliance at the approved type for each and every vehicle built. This ensures a quality standards are upheld when the vehicle is being produced in large numbers. Once all components and systems have been approved, the manufacture company can request approval of the whole vehicle type, they will need to submit detailed documents showing a separate type approvals of all systems and components.

The European WVTA certificate of a vehicle type issued by the approval authority of one member state has to be accepted by all other European member states and allows for the registration of a new vehicle all over the EU, so the vehicle manufacturer then produce a certificate of conformity for each vehicle manufactured in conformity with an approved type. This will cover a range of vehicle models that share fundamental characteristics with tested variant.

ATS Group as Technical Service designated by different Authorities and as an Inspection Body, it carries out inspections on the testing activities carried out directly at the authorized operating offices of the Manufacturer or recognized Laboratories, for the issue of the Final Inspection Report and the subsequent Type Approval Certificate issued by the Competent Authority, for the following types of products:

Vehicles cat. M, N, O – Approval and production control of motor vehicles and their trailers, as well as systems, components and technical units intended for such vehicles, according to the reference framework regulations: EU Regulation 2018/858, subsequent amendments and additions.

• Vehicles cat. L – Approval and production control of two or three-wheeled vehicles and quadricycles, according to EU Regulation 168/2013 and on delegated acts.
• Vehicles cat. T, C, R, S – Approval and production control of agricultural and forestry vehicles according to EU Regulation 167/2013 and its delegated acts.
• Non Road Mobile Machinery NRMM – Approval and production control of non-road engines (Non-Road Mobile Machinery) according to EU Regulation 2016/1628.
• Individual Type Approval  – Single vehicle type approval, according to the reference standards: Art. 24 Directive 2007/46 / EC and Chap. IX of EU Regulation 2018/858.
• Components, systems and technical entities – Approval and production control of components, systems and independent technical units, according to CE / EU and ECE standards.
