electric vehicle (ev) tires

10 years ago you didn’t see many ev tires on the market but with how popular electric vehicles have become recently, most major tire companies today have found the time has come to start offering their own ev tire products.

It makes sense when you think about it EV’s have two major factors working against their tires: weight and torque.

You’ll find most ev’s are a bit heavier than gasoline-powered counterparts, batteries are heavy. Industries are still working about that. Heavier load translates into faster tyre wear and not only. To compensate for this, tire companies go out of their way to use more robust stronger building materials to manufacture these tires.

These heavier vehicles typically have more mass, more mass means increased inertia and this translates to a longer breaking distance. So look to the tread and you’ll find tire manufacturers are often concerned about road grip as well in these ev tires. Next is torque and in EVs it’s near instant, more torque means higher tire wear. As a result tire manufacturers keep a close eye on the rubber compounds they’re using in these tires making sure it’s up to snuff. The goal is a smooth low impact ride with as little rolling resistance as possible.

This not only makes tires longer lasting but more efficient and also delivers the greatest possible range on a single charge. Noise: electric cars are very quiet in relation to their gasoline powered counterparts so tire noise is going to be extremely obvious to passengers. Tires companies typically revisit tire coumpounding and construction as well to deliver the most silent experience possible.

ATS Group, thanks to a network of accredited and recognized test laboratories, is able to perform reliability and tests for tires companies, in compliance with the main national and international standards or according to specific customer requests: dynamic mechanical analysis, abrasion, rolling resistance, tread wear, custom test program development.

ATS Group adapts and conforms strictly to the standards of ISO 17025, and performs the tests required by the regulatory acts for which it has also been designated in the infrastructures of a manufacturer or a third party, in the field of Automotive, in order to respond in the best possible way to the needs of manufacturers and to be more in line with what is required by the Regulations.
